Welcome to Martha's Quest. It's a blog about my personal journey to help my husband, John live the best life possible with Parkinson's disease (PD) and how I have transformed my world as mother, wife and professional to become a citizen scientist in search of answers. I'm on a quest to help propel science forward, and ultimately find a cure for PD. I love having the opportunity to share my discoveries, passions, and thoughts with my loyal readers.
Read on, enjoy, explore, and share.

GUT INSTINCT John Carlin (left) was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 16 years ago. His wife, Martha (right), founded a company to help research the theory that gut microbes play a role in the disease. READ THE FULL ARTICLE

“Everything is connected”.

– MARTHA CARLIN, Citizen Scientist & founder of The BioCollective

My first discovery as a Citizen Scientist was that our approach to science and medicine is often disjointed, disconnected and dysfunctional. We know the body's systems are inextricably intertwined, but we often fail to examine the interconnected whole. Clearly, we need a new research paradigm to incorporate the body’s complexity. The BioCollective was created to explore the Parkinson's gut-brain connection in an effort to help those with PD thrive. Join our quest and become a member of our collective effort.

This is my story, my quest to solve Parkinson's by identifying patterns in health, disease, and the microbiome.

I am a systems turn around expert, so I thought, why can't I turn Parkinson's around too.
